The Portimão circuit hosts the 2024 Ligier European Series season finale on 17 and 18 October. Nineteen cars are entered, and the battles will be fierce to determine the JS P4 and JS2 R category champions. The undulating Portuguese circuit will undoubtedly test the talent of the series’ drivers.
JS P4: Team Virage in search of its third title
Eleven JS P4s will be in action in the two Portimão Heat races on Friday, 18 October. Yuki Tanaka will return to the #16 from Pegasus Racing after missing last month’s Mugello Heat. The Japanese driver will team with his compatriot Tadao Uemastu, who will make his Ligier European Series debut aboard a JS P4. Sixteen-year-old Danish driver Mikkel Pedersen will also get his first taste of the championship in Team Virage’s #32 entry. Manuel Quondamcarlo will drive solo in the #81 of LR Motorsport.
On the championship front, all the titles are still up for grabs, and Team Virage, current championship leader with the #1 JS P4 of Theo Micouris and Haydn Chance, will aim for their third Ligier European Series title. With 164 points collected throughout the season, the Polish team is 25 points clear of RLR MSport’s #77 JS P4 driven by Ian Aguilera, winner of Race 1 at Spa Heat and Mugello Heat. The #6 from ANS Motorsport with Iko Segret is third on 136 points.
Who will win the title: Team Virage, RLR MSport or ANS Motorsport? The answer comes on Friday, 18 October, after the two Portimão Heat races.

JS2 R: the title within reach for Pegasus Racing
This Portuguese final will have eight cars in the JS2 R category. At the wheel of the #18 Pegasus Racing car, Louis Stern will again be on his own to face the competition. Dane August Therbo will join Sita Vanmeert in the #86 Les Deux Arbres JS2 R. The 17-year-old, who is making his debut in the series and at the wheel of the Ligier, finished second in the overall Mitjet 2L 2024 France standings, just 2 points behind the champion.
Spain’s Marta Garcia, winner of Race 2 of the Spa Heat, will be back in the series at the wheel of the #53 Iron Dames by M Racing Ligier JS2 R.
The #29 JS2 R of Pegasus Racing, driven by Julien Schell and David Caussanel, leads the championship with 169 points thanks to three wins this season at Le Mans and in races two of the Spa Heat and Mugello Heat. The #29 JS2 R also leads the PRO-AM standings with 225 points. The French team is followed by the #31 ANS Motorsport JS2 R, driven by Clément Moreno, just 27 points behind. Finally, the second JS2 R entered by Pegasus Racing, Louis Stern’s #18, is third in the standings with 130 points and tops the AM standings with 197 points.

With all the titles still up for grabs, this final round of the 2024 season on the Portimão circuit promises to be hard-fought and full of twists and turns!
The on-track action begins on Thursday, 17 October, at 9 am with the first free practice session. The second practice session will occur at 3:50 pm, followed by the two 15-minute qualifying sessions at 5 and 5:20 pm.
