Barcelona Heat, Qualifying: ANS Motorsport, Loire Valley Racing and LR Motorsport take the season’s first pole positions.

The first two qualifying sessions of the 2025 Ligier European Series season were held this afternoon at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. In the JS P4 category, ANS Motorsport (#6) took the pole position for race 1 with Iko Segret, while Loire Valley Racing (#22) will start P1 for race 2 with Romain Boeckler. In the JS2 R category, LR Motorsport and Simone Riccitelli took the pole position for both races with their #7 Ligier JS2 R.

Session one was interrupted by two red flags. The first came just a few minutes in, following the #17 JS2 R of Chefo Sport coming to a stop on the circuit. The second red flag, caused by the #44 JS P4 of ASM Motorsport going off the track, ended the session with two minutes left on the clock.

From the start of the first qualifying session, the trio of Romain Boeckler (JS P4 #22), Iko Segret (JS P4 #6) and Vincent Bouteiller (JS P4 #19) broke away from the field. The battle raged between the three drivers, but Iko Segret, behind the wheel of the #6 of ANS Motorsport, led the way with less than three minutes remaining with a lap of 1m44.598s. ASM Motorsport’s #44 went off the track, ending the session with Iko Segret claiming the very first pole position of the 2025 season. Iko Segret, ANS Motorsport, Ligier JS P4 #6, pole position, race 1 :

“My teammate and I, along with Nicolas Schatz, have worked hard all winter with the team, and to start the season like this is so cool. The level of competition is exceptionally high this season. We saw it in qualifying; the times were quite close, but I’m confident. Starting like this boosts my confidence, and having a team like ANS Motorsport behind me is fantastic.”

Romain Boeckler, Loire Valley Racing, Ligier JS P4 #22, pole position, race 2 :

“I had to adapt for the first qualifying and get the tyres working correctly. There was a lot of traffic, so it was a real challenge. I was on a great lap, but unfortunately, there was a red flag. I was looking for revenge in qualifying 2. I just wanted to go for it. I’m super happy to have secured the pole position.”

JS2 R: LR Motorsport monopolizes the two pole positions.

The opening qualifying session was dominated from start to finish by Simone Riccitelli behind the wheel of the LR Motorsport #7 JS2 R, who took the first pole position of the season with a best lap of 1m50.073s. It was the same story in the second qualifying session. The #7 JS2 R of LR Motorsport, driven by Simone Riccitelli, won the pole position for race 2 with a lap of 1m49.811s. The Italian driver promises to be a serious challenger for the JS2 R title. August Therbo and the #57 of 23Events Racing came second-best at 1m50.099s, followed by the #83 JS2 R of Trajectus Motorsport driven by Martin Lacquemanne, who put in a lap of 1m51.234s.

The JS2 R #41 of VSF Sports (Florian Teillais / Tristan Clay) led the AM class in the first session with a time of 1m52.298s. The #74 of Loire Valley Racing (Karl Pedraza) came out on top in the second session with a time of 1m53.751s.

Simone Ricittelli, LR Motorsport, Ligier JS2 R #7, pole position, race 1& 2 :

“The championship has grown a lot, and the competition is really fierce this season. Qualifying 1 went very well. I set a lap time that was really close to the second-fastest driver’s. In Qualifying 2, we managed to improve our times even more. I’m very happy that we got a time under 1:50.000. Today was just qualifying. We’re really happy with these results, but the important part is tomorrow.”

Race 1 starts tomorrow at 9 am for one hour of racing. Race 2 will take place from 1:55 to 2:55 pm. Both races will be streamd live on the Ligier European Series YouTube channel.
